Talent Spotlight: Alexei Mejouev

A Talent Spotlight Film

By Shawna Batty

Born in St. Petersburg Russia, then moving to the United States, Alexei Mejouev became fascinated with the Violin. Since beginning his musical career playing Violin at age 7, Alexei has proven to be way ahead of the curve.

With inspiration from his Russian heritage,  Alexei notes Jascha Heifetz and Isaac Stern as some of those who’ve influenced him since learning to play. Our staff was able to sit down with young Alexei and ask him about his experience playing professionally, and here’s what he had to say.

GigSalad: What was the one piece that changed your life?

Alexei Mejouev: “If there was one piece, it was called “Humoresque”. It was in a Suzuki Book, Book 4. And I just, I couldn’t stop playing it. And that’s when I really think I fell in love with music. That’s when I became passionate.”

“When I finally received my paycheck for my first job at 13, it was probably the best moment of my life.”

GS: How did you break into playing?

AM: “I first started out with a small string group in Wilmington (North Carolina). It was called “Junior Strings”, it was for middle-schoolers who played Violin. I was the youngest person in that group. I was in Fourth Grade. That was the first time I ever played with an orchestra.”

GS: What was your first Gig?

AM: “My first gig, I was about 13-years-old, and I was so nervous for it. I practiced for weeks and weeks. When I finally received my paycheck for my first job at 13, it was probably the best moment of my life.

GS: Why do you use GigSalad?

AM: “The thing about being a young musician is that people doubt you a lot, but with GigSalad I can put out all my content, my videos, my audio. And when people listen to it they go “Wow, he can really play!”.”
