We're an experienced Soul band with with a taste of Country Blues. We take classic soul songs from the Stax era and mix in our blues and country flavor to create a sound similar to Janis Joplin, Linda Ronstadt, Dusty Springfield, Bonnie Raitt circa 1960s - 1970s. We call our sound Down Home Country Soul.
It was a transcendental experience. Their guitarist was amazing. I can't explain it but the guitarist--John was his name, I think?--made me remember the happy days of my youth. There weren't many of them but the memories came flooding back. I really like happiness. :)
We booked Birdie Jones for one of our corporate parties and all I can say is DAMN! That girl gots soul! They were professional, on time reasonable, and their performance was jaw dropping impressive. I just can't say enough good things about this band.
All I can say is this band was wonderful. The music was of a professional quality. Birdie's voice was incredible. The musicianship was top notch. They even had a pedal steel guitar player. The tunes were of the genre of the 60's so dad just loved it. If I'm ever to book another band for an event, Birdie Jones will be my 1st choice!

You can expect the best DOWN HOME COUNTRY SOUL you ever heard!
Music is in her DNA. Rachel Jacobs AKA “Birdie” is the daughter of Chuck Blackwell, the drummer from the 60’s TV show Shindig, not to mention Leon Russell, Joe Cocker, Taj Mahal and many others. Birdie got her start singing with her mother in the church choir. Growing up in Los Angeles, in the 80’s, she got involved in the Mod scene, where she developed her love for Soul music.
Both her parents are Oklahoma natives, so there was always Country music around. Unintentionally, Soul and Country influences merged to form the unique style of Birdie Jones. Birdie has been in multiple bands that never went in the direction she was naturally driven to. Out of frustration, Birdie Jones was created so she could do the music she was meant to do.
Jon Arouca is the talented lead guitarist of Birdie Jones. Jon studied music near his hometown in Boston at Berklee College. At Berklee, Jon was exposed to a wide variety of music. Jon and his brother moved to Los Angeles and formed the Alt Rock band “Pine Mountain Casket”. Jon’s love for Blues & Soul brought him to Birdie Jones, adding the roots flavor that can be heard in their music.
Uli Sinn was born and raised in Austria, and has been playing guitar for a number of years. It got to the point where just playing guitar bored him. He needed something new and challenging which led him to playing the Pedal Steel Guitar. Uli has played in a number of Folk, Bluegrass and Country bands in the Los Angeles area. Not a lot of pedal steel players in Los Angeles, but Uli is one of the best!
Dina Woolums is a talented singer-songwriter who was performing as a solo act when Birdie approached her to join the band. Dina just has that special something that really brings the great harmony to The Birdie Jones Sound.
Dave Leggett is the lefty bass player who came from London to Los Angeles to study music at The Musicians Institute. He earned his degree there and won the Outstanding Bass Student Award! It is fair to say music is Dave's life, as he's currently employed by the same Institute he studied at.
Robert Ford is the drummer with the beat that can't be beat. He has a genuine love for Americana Music. He's played with a few other local Los Angeles bands in The Americana genre and is just one hell of a drummer!
When you bring these people together, you naturally get some of the best down home country soul you’ve ever heard!
