Frequently Asked Questions:
What types of events do you perform at?
A bellydancer is appropriate for almost all occasions, including birthdays, graduations, bachelorette parties, nightclubs, restaurants, retirement parties, grand openings, cultural events and outdoor summer fairs. Bellydance is family-friendly entertainment.
Who provides the music?
Annakiya can bring a CD or Ipod to work with your sound system. A boom box is fine for smaller events, but for larger events, a bigger sound system may be necessary, which you will have to arrange. If requested, Annakiya can bring a boom box to your event. (Please also mention if there will be an electrical outlet.)
Annakiya dances to Arabic, Lebanese, Greek, and Turkish music, with Arabic-Indian fusion music available upon request. Feel free to request a particular style of music or a favorite song in advance of the event.
What do you wear?
Annakiya typically wears the standard bellydance 2 piece bellydance costume (please see gallery) which revels her belly. Particular requests can be accommodated, including a more covered costume.
Should we tip you?
Tipping is appreciated and a fun way to interact with the dancer. Culturally appropriate ways to tip include bills being placed in the belt and armbands, showered over the head, or given before or after the performance.
Can we take video or photos?
Of course! It’s part of the fun of the event. Annakiya greatly appreciates pictures/videos of the event and comments being sent to her email.
Will you perform for free just for exposure?
No. Because Annakiya is a trained and professional dancer, she has no need or desire to accept these gigs. However, Annakiya does donate a few gigs a year for charitable causes.
