What to Expect
I cater to the specific audience you have. Since I perform multiple genres - everything from Opera to Mainstream Pop - I can create individualized set lists for each event.I can accompany myself on keyboard and/or guitar, or, if given enough notice, I perform with a full band, including keyboard, guitar, drums and bass.
If you come to one of my performances, I guarantee that you will have a wonderful time. I take my job very seriously and always do my best to make sure that every audience member is enjoying themselves. After all, that's what music is for!
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, AJ Raggs - Angelo Ragghianti - has been performing for almost 12 years. From the time he was 8 years old, AJ was cultured with some of the greatest music of all time. Since then, he dreamed of becoming a professional singer, and so far, those dreams are beginning to take shape. AJ performs year-round as a cantor at St. Paul Cathedral, at weddings, restaurants, retirement living homes, and church festivals in the Pittsburgh area. AJ performs annually at the Carnegie Mellon University Pre-College 4th of July Celebration with his band, opening for Black Tie Stereo. Recently, he was given an opportunity to work with Rick Purcell. This new mentorship led to many new performance opportunities including two annual cotillion balls - The Medallion Ball at the Wyndham Hotel and The Cinderella Ball at the William Penn Omni Hotel (2016 - present) - with the Rick Purcell Big Band. AJ has also sung at the Starlite Lounge in Blawnox alongside semi-famous Pittsburgh Rocker Norman Nardini. In May of 2017, AJ performed at Carnegie Mellon's Honorary Degree Recipient Reception at the home of Subra Suresh, the current President of CMU. With a BFA in Vocal Performance from Carnegie Mellon University, Angelo is studying voice under Baritone Daniel Teadt. Currently, he is recording his first original EP album. He has been a member of the CMU Originals, an award winning all male a cappella group that placed 2nd in the world in the 2016 Inter-Collegiate Championship of A Cappella. AJ's YouTube Channel has nearly 55,000 views and more than 200 subscribers. At Carnegie Mellon, AJ was an active member in Scotch and Soda Theatre, the student run premiere theatre group on campus. Recently, he performed there as Gomez Addams in The Addams Family Musical. He has also been seen in Die Fledermaus as Alfred and as Pane in Francesco Cavalli's La Calisto on the CMU Opera Stage. There he studies Jazz piano under Howard Alexander III, and Jazz voice under Dr. James Johnson II. Check back soon for upcoming performances!
AJ attended the Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts High School (CAPA) as a vocal major. There, he studied voice under Mark Spondike and was a member of the CAPA Concert, Jazz and Chamber Choirs there. As a vocal student, AJ participated in both the required Opera Workshop productions, and the All School Musical extra-curricular for all four years. His roles in these productions included Ralph Rackstraw in HMS Pinafore; The Letterbox in Griffelkin; Mr. Bumble in Oliver! and Usnavi de la Vega in In the Heights. For his role in In the Heights, AJ won the Gene Kelly Award - Best Actor 2013. He then moved on to New York as a nominee in the 2013 National High School Musical Theater Awards (The Jimmy's). While at CAPA, AJ received an award for Outstanding Vocal Student 2013, and also received the Superintendent's Excellence For All Award for Pittsburgh CAPA Class of 2013. In 2014, AJ was the winner of the familylinks Just Jazz II: Brass and Steel Up and Comer Contest, of which the prize was performing during the cocktail hour of that fundraising event next to some notable Jazz musicians: Lisa Ferraro, Houston Person, Benny Benack III, Roger Humphries, Eric Susoeff, Tony Depaolis, Max Leake, Tom Wendt, and Dwayne Dolphin.
Additional Booking Notes
I have my own keyboard and guitar that I can bring to events, but I always prefer to use a real piano if one is available. I may need to rent a PA system and microphone. My band has a nice PA system that we use for performances, though we would need to rent at least one microphone. It's perfect for outdoor shows, and even some indoor shows. If your event calls for a larger sound system, we will be able to rent the equipment. I can fit into small corners, large stages and anywhere in between, though my band requires a little more space. We also would need to be in a well lit area, with access to a power supply. If lighting and power is not available, it can also be rented for an additional fee. Depending upon the nature of your event, we may need to rent more sound and lighting equipment which will be added into the fee. Please provide as much information as possible when asking for a quote so I am able to give you an accurate estimate.

Access to multiple power outlets for sound equipment
A well lit area
For both indoor, or outdoor events, a flat surface - floor or platform - to perform on. It is bad for the instruments to have them on an uneven surface.
A place to unload equipment. It would be helpful if we could pull our vehicles right up to the performance area, but if that is not possible we will make it work.
Parking for up to 2 hours before, and 2 hours after the performance.
