I play favorites from all decades, delivering the right music for the right moment: quiet, ambient tunes during dinner, and then singalongs for when the party gets going. My full name is Steve Prentice. I call my act "Absolutely Jack" after one of my dogs, whose laid-back, friendly and happy attitude is one we could all benefit from. I use looping and harmonizing pedals to add percussion and layers, and my interaction with the crowd helps give people a great party feeling. I particularly like sharing percussion instruments with audience members. I will always chat with the client before the gig to build a set list that will make the evening extra special.

What to Expect
As a solo guitarist, singer, I will arrive and set up in advance of your guests arriving. That means, when they show up, they will see the prepared stage, which always adds to the sense of excitement and anticipation. When the time comes to perform, I will be dressed in respectable clothes, (no jeans, usually black pants, and dress shirt) unless your event calls for a specific style, like country.
I will start on time, and will interact with the audience with some tasteful humor, and stories as needed. I like to hand out percussion instruments like tambourines and wood blocks for audience members young or old, to play along with. I also love to welcome a guest or two to come and sing along, and I bring a second microphone just for that purpose.
Playing and singing is my passion. Learning special, cherished tunes, is something I truly enjoy. Giving people a sense of happiness and fun through music is my goal.
I have been playing in bands since I was 18. The thing I love the most is when people's faces light up and they say "Oh, I LOVE that song!" I wanted to put together an act that was not as loud or complicated as a band, and that would allow me to play the tunes people love. Now, thanks to foot controlled effects like loopers and harmonizers, it's possible for a solo act to sound a little bigger and to deliver a catchy package of tunes that include rhythm and wider vocals.
I love playing for people who remember and cherish upbeat music of the 1970’s and 80’s, and for those who have recently discovered the catchy hooks, great lyrics and powerful vibe of the music that ruled the FM airwaves at that time. I favourites from artists such as Neil Diamond, Elvis, the Eagles, Stray Cats, Elton John, George Michael, the Proclaimers and Tom Jones, just to name a few. i also go back to Sinatra and forward to Garth B rooks and Black Eyed Peas.
The song list here on GigSalad displays just a few of the titles I play. I treat each gig as a serious business engagement, meaning we will meet with you in person, by phone or by Skype to learn more about your needs and favourite tunes. I will then build an event around you. I show up prepared, ready and properly dressed, and will make sure that the performance reflects the theme of your evening.
I play a range of electric and acoustic guitars and will bring a small PA. And I always stay in touch, from the moment you first make a connection with me here on GigSalad, through to my post evaluation follow-up.
Based in Toronto, I am available to play anywhere in the Greater Toronto area, including Niagara and Cottage County.
