A Couple O' Jerks is Joe Tackett and Chris Kay, and we are A Couple O' Jerks.
We are veteran entertainers who play music by artists like Elvis, Chuck Berry, Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison, The Beatles, Peter & Gordon, Johnny Rivers, Simon & Garfunkel, The Eagles, Bare Naked Ladies, and many more.
We can play our music just like the record, or we can "Jerk-A-Cise" it with adult humor and antics. Either way, we love to get the audience involved with singing, clapping and trivia questions.
We live just outside of Detroit, and are able to travel when needed.
Price Range: Fees vary by travel-shows-days
Gig Length: 90 - 180 minutes
What to Expect
We are extremely professional. We arrive on time to set up and test our equipment. We speak with the managers and find out what they would like us to do. We let management know that they should simply let us know if the volume needs to be adjusted. We watch the clock and end at the correct time.
Audience members should expect beautifully played & sang music, and that we will do our best to include them in the show. If they have requests, we will be happy to play them if we know them (even sometimes, when we don't!) Depending on the venue, we will adust our humor to the youngest members of the audience.
A Couple O' Jerks! is Joe Tackett and Chris Kay. We both play guitar and sing Pop music. We do as many "harmony" songs as we can, such as The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkle, The Everly Brothers, Peter and Gordon, Chad and Jeremy, The Righteous Brothers and Motown. We both sing and play acoustic-electric guitars, and we have been performing for more than twenty years at night clubs, special events, cruise ships and in Bermuda.
We like to engage our audiences as much as possible. We tell them that we will buy the whole place a drink if they ALL sing along on the next song. When the song is over, we have a waitress bring out one beer, with about twenty straws in it. We also get them to come on stage with us and share their talents (musical) and tell jokes, propose marriage/divorce or announce that they have come out of the closet.
We perform many songs with only guitars and voice (Everly Brothers, Simon & Garfunkle), and use a computer to play backing tracks for others, when we need to sound like a full band.
We have all of the equipment necessary to light a small stage and amplify the music for a typical night spot, and we have larger equipment to amplify a moderate sized theatre or a small outdoor event. We also have six life-sized pictures of ourselves (playing drums, horns and a keyboard) to help fill up a stage and provide a sense of whimsy.
We are based in the Detroit area, and are able to travel under most conditions.
All the best,
Joe Tackett & Chris Kay
P.S. We're not gay (Not that there's anything wrong with that) but I'm beginning to think that Chris's husband is...
