Rachael Elizabeth Kistler has been playing the violin since the age of two and received her formal training at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Her experience as a soloist, chamber & orchestral musician are unsurpassed. She currently works as a freelance violinist on the East Coast. Hailed by the Charlotte Observer as a "brilliant musical talent", Rachael Elizabeth Kistleris nationally recognized as an extraordinary performer, a devoted and gifted educator, and a passionate and innovative community engagement activist. Making her professional debut with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra at the age of 16, she has performed extensively in the United States and abroad, and has given recitals in Seattle, Portland, Charleston, Cleveland, Charlotte, Hickory and Asheville.
At present, Rachael works as a freelance musician with professional orchestras on the East Coast. Previous appointments include Program Associate of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's education program (OrchKids), Assistant Concertmaster of the Western Piedmont Symphony, Section First Violin of the Asheville, Winston-Salem, Greenville, Ohio Valley, Charleston and West Virginia Symphonies, and Elementary-Middle School Strings Teacher with the Kanawha County Schools system. She has also toured with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and received critical acclaim for her work as the violinist of Asheville-based absurdist folk band, Sirius B.
In addition to the standard classical repertoire, Rachael is deeply committed to exploring musical diversity and the broader scope of the fine arts spectrum. Her work as educator and performer with the concert series Unedited {Creative Fuel for Thought}, a community-based interdisciplinary arts program based in Charleston, SC, has been lauded for its diverse programming, thought-provoking subject matter and mission of social change through the power of music.
An alumnus of the Cleveland Institute of Music, Rachael studied under the tutelage of David Updegraff and Peter Salaff and coached with the Cavani Quartet, Carolyn Gadiel-Warner, and Peter Salaff. She is laureate of the Blount-Slawson, NFMC, Gardner-Webb University, Appalchian State University, Charlotte Symphony and Young Artist Competitions and an alumnus of the Eastern and Chautauqua Music Festivals.
Rachael was born in Hickory, North Carolina and began her violin studies with Suzuki teacher Paula Zimmerman at the age of two. At the age of seven, Rachael continued her studies outside of the Suzuki method with North Carolina Symphony Concertmaster, Brian Reagin. Previous teachers include Xiaoqing Yu, Nancy Bargerstock, Almita Vamos, Jaques Israelievitch and Evan Wilson.
Rachael is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Asheville, where she was awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Literature and Women's Studies. Rachael lives, along with her husband and menagerie of rescue animals, in North Asheville. She enjoys cooking, writing and is passionate about animal rescue. In addition to her work as a performer, Rachael maintains a teaching studio of talented young musicians as well as a freelance photography studio. Her freelance music and photographytravels regularly take her on assignment throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington D.C. and beyond.

Set-up for classical musicians is very simple. For indoor/outdoor events, armless chairs will be needed for musicians. Music stands will be provided. For outdoor events, shade/no direct sunlight is a requirement for performance. Musical instruments are very fragile, expensive, and can be adversely affected by harsh temperatures.
