It all started with Pat Hurley...

Seminar On August 14, 2012, I will celebrate 20 years of ordained Christian ministry.

Back in 1979, I was a junior at Tigard High School (Tigard, Oregon). My parents had juat moved AGAIN (and we moved about every 10 minutes when I was a kid). This time, we moved across the country. I was living in a strange state, far from home, extended family, and friends. I was angry and depressed.

Then Pat Hurley came to speak at my high school. He was funny and he really seemed to understand what I was going through (even though I wasn't brave enough to meet him personally). He would be speaking again, that night, at a local church. I BEGGED my parents to let me go. They said they didn't want me to become a religious nut. Besides (they argued) THAT church was probably a cult. I didn't get to go back to hear him speak, but I kept after my parents day and night until they let me go to that church's youth group.

In time, I committed my life to Christ. I spent 5 years at Northwest Christian College and then went to seminary. Now, it's 20 years later. I have a youth group that I lead. In all that time, I have never forgotten Pat Hurley or his ministry to me, at a really rough transitional time in my life. Thanks to Pat, I am the religious nut my parents feared! :0)

Kids still struggle today. They hide it from their friends and family. Perhaps their problems just explode in fits of anger at odd times against all the wrong people. Kids need Jesus Christ, even if they have no clue that they do. Jesus (and all church) can be pretty intimidating. Pat Hurley makes it fun and opens the doors to kids' hearts.

I highly recommend him to any ministry or any setting where folks could use a good laugh from a really decent guy!

What to Expect

The main reason churches bring me in is for motivational and biblical stand up comedy to reach their youth and congregation. Humor with a message. I also teach an easy to use bible study method for Sunday school and provide leadership training for the church staff. Many churches and community groups also strictly use me for stand up comedy. No message. Just good, clean FUN!
