About

Born in Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil, Mitzy began playing flute in elementary school in New York. Primarily self-taught until beginning her studies at Purchase Conservatory of Music under Dr. Tara Helen O’Connor in 2008, she has since had the opportunity to study with Laura Gilbert, Janet Arms and John Oberbrunner. Mitzy recently toured China with the Manhattan Symphonie, performed a solo recital at Teatro Armando do Re in Suzano, Brazil, and played with the Eleazar de Carvalho Festival Orchestra in Fortaleza, Brazil, in addition to participation in the Rutgers Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Tempest Opera Production, in which she played recorder. Mitzy has also performed at Carnegie Hall with the Manhattan Symphonie, in Rutgers University's production of Cendrillon, in Purchase Conservatory's National Opera Association Award-winning Mamelles de Theresias, as Principal flutist with the Putnam Symphony Orchestra, and in recital at New Rochelle's Ossie Davis Theatre. She has also performed at the Skidmore Flute Institute, Eastern US Music Camp at Colgate University, and toured France with the Ridgefield Youth Symphony Orchestra. During the 2009-2010 season of the New York Youth Symphony Chamber Music Program, Mitzy formed the MA duo with clarinetist Ashley Grutta, coaching with flutist Laura Gilbert, with invitational performances at The National Arts Club, Carnegie's Weill Hall, and at Symphony Space as performers for the NYYS Making Score Program, as well as in masterclasses with Tara Helen O'Connor and Alan R. Kay. She received her BM from SUNY Purchase Conservatory in 2011 and began her MM at the Steinhardt School of New York University, where she studied with Kathleen Nester and played in the masterclasses of Keith Underwood and Robert Dick. Mitzy continues to pursue her Master of Music degree under Bart Feller at the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University
