Biography
The steel drum also known as "pan" is one of the most electrifying instruments created in the 20th century. Clyde George, as a child, heard the beautiful sounds of this new instrument called "pan" and his desire to play this instrument began. As a teenager in the panyards, he was given the nickname "Lightning" by his teacher, the famous Bertie Marshall. He was blessed to be trained and encouraged by Bertie, the inventor of the double tenor steel pan.
As an adult, "Lightning" felt it necessary to educate the world about "pan", thus he came to Chicago, a city known for its passion for jazz . Here he continued his career in the famous jazz clubs of Chicago.
What is particularly unique to Clyde "Lightning" George is his unyielding passion and panache while performing with his heart, body, mind and soul to audiences around the world. "Lightning" is one with the music. Those lucky enough to hear him will leave enchanted by the sounds of his steelpan and his quartet; Steelin' Jazz.
Steelin' Jazz is the perfect blend of island heat and cool jazz.
