Dominic Vito Roma is currently 29 years old, with a realistically happy experience. He has become a very productive member of society and has built an amazing network of friends and family. Dominic has been fortunate enough to gain employment as a counselor for students that are in the same circumstances that he found himself in at thirteen years of age. At a time when most children begin discovering what they want to become in life and how tough the teen years are, Dominic was labeled as a murderer and faced with the possibility of serving 25 years to life in a maximum security state prison facility in Pennsylvania. The road to this horrific circumstance was paved with insecurity, bullying, low self-esteem, frustration and lack of understanding of how to express feelings and communicate effectively with his family and friends. This lack of ability to identify and process his feelings of hurt and pain finally led to a situation where he made a very quick and unhealthy decision that changed the entire course of his life and took the life of an innocent person. After an 8 month Trial and a 3 month De-certification hearing (to remove Dominic from adult court proceedings) he was adjudicated as a juvenile delinquent and sentenced to what is referred to as 'Juvenile Life' or to remain under the courts supervision until he turned 21 years of age. After spending nearly 6 years in a maximum secure juvenile facility learning about processing and expressing his emotions and defining who he is, as well as, learning about the impact and effects of the horrific crime that he had committed. Dominic earned the privilege of being transitioned to a residential facility within the same program where he spent the remainder of his time attempting to acclimate himself back into reality and society. On April 7, 2003 Dominic was released from the jurisdiction of the juvenile courts in Pennsylvania, and he stood at the beginning of another long and challenging journey. Dominic has had the privilege to experience the normal ups and downs of life and build a life that he could only dream of at night before he drifted off to sleep at night, for all of those years. Every day that Dominic wakes up he is reminded of the obstacles that he has overcome in his life and the obstacles that he has created for other people in their lives. Dominic has learned that this life is much better spent healing people instead of harming them, and the best avenue that he has found to attempt to give back some of what he has stolen, is to share his experience with others and to prove that, with a positive attitude and the right perspective, anyone can overcome anything!
