About
Higher Ground is an Rhythm and Blues band based in Nashville Tennessee. We have been performing for Weddings, Corporate Events, Fraternity Formals, Etc for 10 plus years. We cover a wide range of music from Motown to today's popular Music. When it comes to weddings we try to go beyond the call of duty to satisfy the Newly-Wedds. We always arrive early to the performance site to get the instruments set up and tested. Some couples ask the band to learn the 1st dance song, father/daughter dance song, etc. If given the music far enough in advance, we usually accommodate these requests. Getting back to the band, Higher Ground consists of excellent musicians and vocalists. I (Van Bradshaw) am the Founder and Leader of the band. I am the lead guitarist. I've played professionally for 25 years. I've performed in many cities in America, but also have performed on Cruise Ships, also toured in Japan, Singapore, Bahamas, etc. I have toured and recorded with Sisqo(The Dragon) on the Thong Song tour. As Band Leader, I don't short cut on the caliber of musicians I surround myself with. Higher Ground consists of top rated well studied musicians. If one needs further details on the Band's line up, that information can be made available. The main core of Higher Ground consists of 4 musicians and 2 vocalists. The instrumentation is Keyboardist, Guitarist, Bass Guitarist, Drummer, Male Vocalist, and Female Vocalist. Upon Request, Higher Ground adds Horn Players for an additional fee (Usually A Saxophonist and Trumpeter). During most Corporate Events, Weddings, Sorority Formals, Etc., the band will start with a quiet dinner set, then escalate to party mode as the evening progresses. We strive to keep even the senior citizens hanging around to go down memory lane while having a party to cherish.
Influences
This is a very difficult question. We are a group with so many influences. For example, I'm lead guitarist, I grew up listening to R&B, Rock, Easy Listening, Country, etc. The Bassist is a lover of Jazz and Fusion. The Drummer loves Funk and Gospel. The Keyboardist is a musical director for many Broadway Plays. The male vocalist loves real singers like Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, Nat King Cole, Luther Vandross, and current singers like R Kelly, Usher, Michael Jackson, etc. The female vocalist loves Motown and Donna Summers, Natalie Cole, as well as Neo Soul artists like Jill Scott, Erica Badu, and pop artist Beyonce. This is a condensed version of our influences.
What to Expect
Almost every event we play for, the audience looks at us with an inquisitive or judgemental stare. We play our 1st set and we can barely take our break because usually the audience is so excited, they want us to rush back to the stage right away. I think that's a good sign of the music being enjoyed.

Additional Notes:
Higher Ground is Self Contained when it comes to production. We have our own Sound System. It consists of High End Components that is usually very efficient to entertain up to 500 people. We have JBL SRX speakers and Crown Amps and top rated instruments on stage. We also carry our own Stage Lights. We need access to 3 outlets on separate circuits within 20 feet of the stage. We require a private dressing room and bathroom(If Possible). We require refreshments in the dressing room (i.e. cokes, sprite, bottled water, and a meal would be greatly appreciated. Most of us eat Poultry and Fish only as a meat. Most Vegetables are acceptable. Back to Sound System info, It is always welcomed for the Venue to provide The Sound System as this lightens the responsibility of the Band.
