In the summer of 2007 we’ve fixed a glitch in our sorting order on Gigsalad.com. It used to be that when, for instance, 2 bands who selected Jazz Band as their main category and Boston, Massachusetts as their nearest major city showed up in search results, then the order of the bands would always fall in a fixed position. Had nothing to do with when the band signed up, or how much they’ve paid us, or if they’re members of our own family. It was completely arbitrary, but in the end was fixed. So band number 2 could never be band number 1, and there was no apparent reason for it.

We recognized that and changed it. Now, those 2 Boston-based Jazz Bands will appear in random order in terms of hierarchy. Sometimes band number 2 would be above band number 1, and vice-versa. That way, everybody gets a turn at number one.

Sounds fair to me! I never thought people should be able to PAY for top position, or get it because they signed up FIRST. Kudos!
