A unique event with surprisingly funny and accessible poetry that is rooted in the Jewish experience. Rick can perform solo, team up with musicians in your community to create a special event blending their music and his poetry, and anchor a larger event such as a community Beit Cafe providing space to showcase community's talent.
A two-time Pushcart Prize Nominee, Rick Lupert is the author of seventeen books of poems including “I’m a Jew Are You” and “Feeding Holy Cats”. He is also the editor of three poetry anthologies including “A Poet’s Haggadah - Passover Through the Eyes of Poets.”
He has performed his Jewish spoken word at venues all over the world including Limmud UK, The URJ Biennial (San Diego), Friday Night Live (Los Angeles) and at individual synagogues, Hillels and many other Jewish organizations.
Rick has also collaborated with some of the biggest names in Jewish music to create unique performances blending Jewish music and spoken word, including Dan Nichols, Craig Taubman, Danny Maseng, Noah Aronson, Jay Rapoport.
Involved in the Los Angeles poetry community since 1990, he served for two years as co-director of the Valley Contemporary Poets and is the founder of Poetry Super Highway, one of the internet’s most extensive poetry resources. His poetry has appeared in numerous magazines and literary journals, including The CCAR Journal, The Blue Jew Yorker, The Los Angeles Times, Rattle, Chiron Review, Red Fez, Zuzu's Petals, The Bicycle Review, Caffeine Magazine, and Blue Satellite.
Rick performs his poetry at a range of cultural and academic venues throughout the United States and abroad.
