I started my music career when I was eight years old simply because of my parents, and my story probably isn't much different than any other musicians but I'll tell you anyway.
Both my parents moved to Lorain, Ohio from Puerto Rico back in the early 50's, they weren't together at that time but somehow ended up living in the same neighborhood. They also shared two similar passions, they were both very spiritual and they were also musicians...and very good ones. My father played the guitar and my mother was a singer, they both equally loved music with a passion. Somehow they found themselves at the same Service in the same church inquiring with the same Pastor about joining the Church Band. Well, I won't continue with the miraculous "somehow" events that continued to bring them closer and closer together thereafter but...it did result in their marriage and ofcourse my birth almost immediately after.
As far back as I can possibly remember I grew up listening to Spanish music in our home, my father played the guitar and my mother singing along right next to him. It wasn't long before I acquired their shared passions, but I didn't want to play the guitar, the Piano caught my heart. And ofcourse if I could sing like my mother...wouldn't that be something. After a couple of years of being taught how to play the piano by a church member (at the request of both my parents since I spent as much time at church as they did) I started getting better and better, it was soon after that my parents noticed a change in my voice. So they asked me to play and sing along with them at home on a few of their favorite ballad's and being that I truly loved music it didn't take much convincing for me to start singing and playing along. We sang together at home for what seemed to be a lifetime. A year later they realized my ability and potential so they asked me to join them on stage at church as a pianist & singer, so I did. Fast forward two decades after playing together at church, my parents fell ill and could no longer perform. However because of my faith and devotion to the church, I continued to play and was honored with the title of Music Director. I filled the position for many years.
I then left the church and joined a local band with my husband at that time (who was also a guitarist), we performed together at many local events for years until we divorced. I continued performing but I was doing so alone, I had learned many tricks on my Electronic Mini Grand Piano and Keyboard so I didn't really need a band...I just needed to know the correct sound effects to make it appear as though there was a band behind me.
I've since remarried and have traveled abroad with my husband, do to his position and the need to relocate frequently (opening new business offices)...I've performed in several cities in Florida, Michigan, Illinois, New York, Maryland, California, Utah, and most recently in Colorado. And now that my husband has changed his career due to his inability to fly around like he use to, we've relocated back to Lorain...where it all started.
And that's pretty much my bio as it relates to my career in music, I hope that I didn't put anyone to sleep. But now I'm interested in continuing performing here in the local area.
