For speaking engagements, I require the following technical setup to ensure a seamless and successful presentation:
Microphone: A high-quality microphone is essential for clear and audible communication with the audience. A wireless lapel microphone or handheld microphone is preferred to allow for ease of movement on stage.
Sound System: A reliable sound system is necessary to amplify the speaker's voice and ensure that all attendees can hear the presentation clearly. This includes speakers positioned strategically throughout the venue to distribute sound evenly.
Projection Equipment: If utilizing slides or visual aids during the presentation, a projector and screen are required. The projector should be compatible with the speaker's laptop or other presentation devices, and the screen should be large enough to be visible from all areas of the venue.
Stage Lighting: Proper stage lighting enhances the speaker's visibility and creates a professional atmosphere. Ideally, the stage should be well-lit with adjustable lighting to highlight the speaker and minimize shadows.
Stage Setup: A podium or lectern may be provided for the speaker to place notes or reference materials during the presentation. Additionally, a comfortable chair or stool may be provided for the speaker to use during portions of the talk.
Audiovisual Technician: An audiovisual technician or support staff should be available onsite to assist with setup, troubleshooting, and operating the sound and projection equipment. This ensures that technical issues can be addressed promptly to minimize disruptions during the presentation.
Backup Equipment: It is advisable to have backup equipment available in case of technical malfunctions. This includes spare microphones, cables, and audiovisual components to ensure that the presentation can proceed smoothly in the event of equipment failure.
By ensuring that these technical requirements are met, event organizers can help to create an optimal environment for a successful and impactful speaking engagement.
As a Black Empowerment Motivation Speaker and author promoting the principles of empowerment and liberation in my book "On Becoming a Black Joshua," my influences are diverse and deeply rooted in history, literature, and personal experiences. Here are some of the key influences that have shaped my perspective and inspired my work:
Biblical Story of Moses and Joshua: The biblical narrative of Moses and Joshua serves as a foundational influence in my journey as a Black empowerment advocate. The story of Joshua, particularly his leadership in leading the Israelites across the Jordan River into the Promised Land, resonates deeply with me. It symbolizes resilience, determination, and the pursuit of liberation against all odds.
Dr. Percy Julian: Dr. Percy Julian, a pioneering African American chemist and entrepreneur, is a source of inspiration for me. Despite facing racial discrimination and adversity, Dr. Julian achieved groundbreaking scientific discoveries and paved the way for future generations of Black scientists. His determination, intellect, and perseverance serve as a reminder of the power of resilience and excellence in the face of adversity.
My Parents, Dr. Aline and Caryll Dormer: My parents have been instrumental in shaping my values, beliefs, and aspirations. Their unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement have fueled my journey towards empowerment and liberation. From instilling a strong work ethic to emphasizing the importance of education and self-love, my parents have been my pillars of strength and inspiration.
Martin Luther King Jr.: The leadership and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. have profoundly influenced my approach to advocacy and activism. Dr. King's commitment to nonviolent resistance, civil rights, and social justice has paved the way for progress and empowerment for Black communities. His teachings and insights continue to guide my efforts as a Black Joshua, empowering others to embrace their inherent worth and strive for positive change.
Literature and History: The rich tapestry of Black American literature and history has also influenced my perspective and shaped my understanding of empowerment and liberation. From the writings of James Baldwin and Maya Angelou to the struggles and triumphs of figures like Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass, the stories of resilience, resistance, and triumph have served as sources of inspiration and empowerment.
Incorporating these influences into my work as a Black Empowerment Motivation Speaker, I strive to inspire individuals to embrace their identity, overcome adversity, and pursue their dreams with courage and determination. By drawing on the lessons of history, literature, and personal experiences, I aim to empower others to become agents of positive change in their own lives and communities.
